Houseplant of the month: Dieffenbachia

Houseplant of the month: Dieffenbachia

If your indoors needs bit of greening up, consider potting a Dieffenbachia or two. Their verdancy adds a summer freshness and these plants offer an easy way to improve air quality in the home

dieffenbachia have variegated green leaves.

Dieffenbachias offer a jaunty green presence and The Flower Council of Holland says July is great time to buy them at your local nursery. They'll last for years, just keep them watered and in a light position.

If you're thinking about getting some easy-to-care for indoor plants, the Dieffenbachia is a good choice, with its distinctive patterned green leaves and air purifying qualities.

Dieffenbachias, which hail from South and Central America, are available with either large or small leaves. They do need to be kept watered and you should spray the leaves fairly often too. The plant should be placed in a light position, but not in direct sunlight.

Note: It’s best to wear gloves when re-potting the plant, and you should keep it out of reach of children and pets.
